Well, it's been ten years since I left Orlando for Laurenburg, Germany, and a few things have changed. Besides the obvious - that I'm ten years older - my interest in getting everything preserved in photos has grown into an obsession and a profession. I've gone from one camera, a 22 year old Minolta, to a few more and, more recently digital. When the weather is decent, the cameras and tripods get loaded in the car and off we go exploring the countryside. It's a constant stop and go as I'm forever finding a "Kodak moment". I used to tease my mother about her passion for picture taking - now, I just claim that my latent "Helen gene" has kicked in and I'm just like her. <g>
My other passion has been collecting
German recipes. And that does include trying them in restaurants. Some of the best
food that I've had has been served in little places "off the beaten path".
During the year, we can be found at the flea markets on the weekend buying German
recipe books and cast iron - cookery articles, stoveplates, plaques, curiosities and
antique stoves.

If you've never heard of Laurenburg, don't worry...not many people have. As a matter of fact, it's so small that we don't even have a traffic light. <g> It's about halfway between Koblenz and Frankfurt, on the Lahn. Since so many people have asked me where it is, I've added a map, which you can access from the home page by clicking on the "Where is Laurenburg, Germany?" icon.
